Just felt the need to post a little comment here. \u00a0Last week I switched jobs, moving out of the games industry for the first time in almost 15 years, and into a more mainstream programming job.<\/p>\n
I know that workmates from both the new and the old companies read this blog, so I have a few choice words for each.<\/p>\n
If you’re a workmate from my new workplace, please pretend I spent a paragraph or two here slagging off games-industry people off for a lack of rigour\/discipline in design and planning, for cowboy programming, and for general scheduling\/crunch\/etc madness that is stereotypically believed to be endemic in the games industry.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, if you’re a workmate from one of my old (games-industry) workplaces, please pretend that I spent a paragraph or two slagging off the new place for over-reliance on policy and procedures, red tape, over-planning, and that I included a few comedic references to The Office or Office Space, as is stereotypically believed by games-industry folks to be endemic outside of the games industry.<\/p>\n
And if you’re that one guy with whom I’ve worked in both situations (you know who you are): \u00a0Hi, and welcome to my blog! \u00a0:D<\/p>\n
